Configuring a Twitter client to work with your Shout'Em network

Page history last edited by Saša Šarunić 3 years, 3 months ago

Twitter clients that can be used to access your Shout'Em network must allow customization of the URL to the Twitter-compatible API of your network.

Spaz

Spaz is an open-source Twitter client for Mac, Windows and Linux.

Let's show how to configure it for our team.shoutem.com network.

1. Click on the Preferences button. This will open the Preferences dialog.

2. Open the Authentication section of the Preferences dialog.

3. Enter your username (or email) and password for your Shout'Em network in the appropriate text boxes.

4. Enter the URL to the Twitter-compatible API of your network in the Base API URL text box (that is http://team.shoutem.com/api/twitter/1.0/ in our example).

5. Enter the URL to your Shout'Em network in the Base WWW URL text box (that is http://team.shoutem.com/ in our example).

6. Click on the Save preferences button.

You can now work with your network through Spaz like on the picture below.

Twhirl

Twhirl is a social software desktop client, based on the Adobe AIR platform. It doesn't allow you to enter the URL to the custom Twitter API, but fortunately allows you to enter the URL to your Laconi.ca account (which is almost the same thing ;). Let's see how to configure it to work with our team.shoutem.com network.

1. Click on the Configuration button. This will open the Configuration dialog.

2. Click on Open accounts button. This will open the Accounts dialog (that you use to add, delete or edit your social-network accounts).

3. Open the combo-box bellow the list of configured accounts and select laconi.ca item.

4. Enter your Shout'Em username in the form yournick@yournetworkname.shoutem.com (sasa@team.shoutem.com in our example) in the appropriate text box

5. Click the plus (+) button. This will add your Shout'Em account in the list of accounts.

6. Select your Shout'Em account in the list of accounts and press a Connect button. This will show the Login dialog

7. Enter your Shout'Em password and press a Login button.

That's it. You can now work with your network through the Twhirl client like we do on the picture below.

Other clients work in a very similar way like the two ones described before.
